Biking the Virginia Creeper Trail (see "The Creeper Trail")is a unique personal and family experience. The 17 mile, mostly downhill, trip from Green Cove Station on Whitetop Mountain to Damascus, Virginia runs through Mount Rodgers National Forest. There are mountain streams filled with trout, scenic views, beautiful trees and plants, over 30 wooden railroad tressles, and photographic opportunites around each turn.
Seasoned bikers may want to complete the 34 mile trip all the way back to Abingdon.
Summers Cottage has a bike barn on the property where you can store and lock your bike.
Please take a camera and if anyone in your party is prone to motion sickness advise them to take medication. The trip up to Whitetop is 35 miles from Abingdon and most of it is winding mountain roads.
